SHORT STORY COLLECTION NOW AVAILABLE -- FREE AT SMASHWORDS.COM

Upper Ohio Valley Books is excited to announce Joe C. Ellis's latest offering: a collection of short stories entitled SIX SHORT STORIES. The ebook is available at Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com for only 99 cents and FREE at Smashwords.com.

Although  the stories offer a variety of plots and characters, a common theme emerges tying all the tales together: dangerous or traumatic encounters. Whether it be a nasty shark prowling along the North Carolina coast (THE SHARK), a dead body under a frozen river (THE DEAD OF WINTER), a psychopathic preacher determined to get his way at all costs (CONSIDER THE SPARROWS), the murder of a high school cross country runner (THE BRIDGE), a boy's conflict with his father (THE LAST GAME), or a lethal Ebay auction (WHEATFIELD WITH CROWS) , these encounters offer the reader compelling entertainment.

If you're looking for a good read, don't hesitate to check these chilling and thrilling stories out. You can't beat the price--99 cents!

The Old Man and the Marathon is a story about taking on a challenge despite the odds. Sixty-four year old Angelo Santiago has been a distance runner most of his life. However, he has never run a marathon because of a history of sciatica problems. This missing piece in his competitive career has always gnawed at him, reminding him of his inferiority among his running peers. After three months of pain-free running, he decides to train for his first marathon. With encouragement from his young friend, Emmanuel, he begins the arduous workouts that will prepare him for one of the most difficult ordeals of his life. Along the way he meets Rita Marling, a beautiful woman who stirs romantic embers dormant since the death of his wife ten years ago. He also encounters Jack Silvers, a local high school coach and marathoner who becomes his rival in racing and romance. On the day of the race, like everyone who takes on the challenge of a marathon, Angelo must reach deep inside to find the strength and courage to finish the race.

Audio Book in Progress

Murder on the Outer Banks: the Methuselah Murders will soon be available as an audiobook. ACX--Audiobook Creation Exchange--has chosen Murder on the Outer Banks to be one of their titles to be eligible for a production stipend. This means ACX will pay a professional producer a stipend ($100 per finished hour) to create the audiobook. I'm excited to announce that Lee Alan, a nationally known producer, character actor, and voice over artist, along with his team will be producing the audio book. This audiobook version of Murder on the Outer Banks will be available from Amazon.com, Audible.com and iTunes some time in April. More information will be forthcoming.

RUNNER'S WORLD Magazine Mentions Novel

The July 2012 issue of RUNNER'S WORLD magazine mentions Murder on the Outer Banks on the bottom of page 22 in a section called: Intersection--Where Running and Culture Collide. It's listed as the third example of this intertwining of culture and running. The magazine states: BEACH READ: In Murder on the Outer Banks, a high-stakes chase ensues when a runner discovers a secret age-reversing serum.

Very Cool!--my book has been mentioned by the "Worlds Leading Running Magazine."
