With the world on the brink of nuclear war, Joel Thomas and his college roommates head to the Outer Banks’ primitive Portsmouth Island for a week of camping on the edge of the ocean. The possibility of romance develops when they meet Holly and her friends from WVU. Joel and Holly become acquainted with Elsa Newland, a preteen with uncanny abilities. She claims that a treasure chest buried on the island contains an object that has the power to establish world peace. Reverend Noah Swagger considers Elsa’s vision absurd. He and his disciples believe the escalating conflict between North Korea and the United States will usher in the end times. However, the rumored treasure could be the answer to his prayers: funds for an underground bunker. Elsa is determined to find the chest and save the world. Others, though, have more malevolent plans to get their hands on the Legendary Treasure of El Salvador.

FREE MYSTERY NOVEL FOR KINDLE AND NOOK EBOOK

FREE -- FREE -- FREE -- FREE
For a limited time, Joe C. Ellis's mystery WWII novel, The First Shall Be Last will be offered as a free ebook at Amazon.com and BarnesandNobel.com.
Also available as an Audible book at Amazon

THE FIRST SHALL BE LAST is a murder mystery and love story set during the harrowing days of World War II. This novel is a tribute to our country's Greatest Generation and the sacrifices they made on the home front and battlefront. "Haunting, captivating, compelling, THE FIRST SHALL BE LAST is a powerful mystery that grips the heart." -- Nancy Haddock, Berkley Books novelist. Description: Two young lovers separated by war cling to hope and sanity by exchanging passionate letters. As Howard heads to his first battle on the Pacific island of Peleliu, Helen fulfills her call to duty by working at a local factory. They soon discover they have more to worry about than the elite Japanese forces deeply entrenched on the island. One of Howard's platoon members, Judd Stone, seeks revenge against a black stretcher bearer by the name of Josiah Jackson. Howard fears Stone may go to any length to get what he wants, even murder. Sixty years later Reverend Byron Butler enters the hospital room of an old Marine who wants to confess a dark secret. But Butler can't discover the whole truth until he investigates other leads--Helen and Howard's letters, Josiah Jackson's son, and a mysterious footlocker. Known as the "forgotten battle," Peleliu marked the first time segregated black troops mixed with white Marines on the front lines. The integration wasn't mandated. It was attributed to the ferocity of the battle as black soldiers aided the wounded. The novel is based on the memoirs of James E. Ellis, the author's father.

Murder at Ocracoke, Book Four in the popular Outer Banks Murder Series by Joe C. Ellis is now available in ebook and paperback format.

Amazon Kindle  -- $6.99
Barnes and Noble Nook -- $6.99
Paperback at Amazon -- $16.95

A dark shadow has fallen upon the pristine, unspoiled gem of the Outer Banks--Ocracoke Island. Developers and investors long to get their greedy hands on its protected shores. On a moonlit September night, six people have gathered at Springer's Point to seek out the ghosts of Ocracoke. Do the spirits care what happens to the island? A strange, glowing eagle appears and scatters the ghost hunters into the woods. One of them will not emerge alive.

In his fourth book from the bestselling Outer Banks Murder Series, author Joe C. Ellis offers his readers another intriguing mystery. Oil and gas fracking companies have invaded once-sacred Native American lands in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Reports of a Thunderbird, a large legendary eagle, menacing the skies in these environmentally threatened areas frighten local residents. Something terrible always happens whenever the bird appears--accidents, murders, and even earthquakes. When the Thunderbird's appearance on Ocracoke Island coincides with a murder, the Secret Service, FBI, and local law enforcement join forces to investigate.

Special Agent Russell Goodwin calls upon Sheriff Dugan Walton, Deputy Marla Easton, and reporter, Mee Mee Roberts to assist in putting the pieces of this strange puzzle together. In the process they engage with a cast of unusual characters--a British diplomat and his stunning wife, a shaman from a local Native American tribe, two paranormal investigators, and a world renowned medium. To protect the sacred, someone has committed the profane--coldblooded murder.

The Old Man and the Marathon is a story about taking on a challenge despite the odds. Sixty-four year old Angelo Santiago has been a distance runner most of his life. However, he has never run a marathon because of a history of sciatica problems. This missing piece in his competitive career has always gnawed at him, reminding him of his inferiority among his running peers. After three months of pain-free running, he decides to train for his first marathon. With encouragement from his young friend, Emmanuel, he begins the arduous workouts that will prepare him for one of the most difficult ordeals of his life. Along the way he meets Rita Marling, a beautiful woman who stirs romantic embers dormant since the death of his wife ten years ago. He also encounters Jack Silvers, a local high school coach and marathoner who becomes his rival in racing and romance. On the day of the race, like everyone who takes on the challenge of a marathon, Angelo must reach deep inside to find the strength and courage to finish the race.

RUNNER'S WORLD Magazine Mentions Novel

The July 2012 issue of RUNNER'S WORLD magazine mentions Murder on the Outer Banks on the bottom of page 22 in a section called: Intersection--Where Running and Culture Collide. It's listed as the third example of this intertwining of culture and running. The magazine states: BEACH READ: In Murder on the Outer Banks, a high-stakes chase ensues when a runner discovers a secret age-reversing serum.

Very Cool!--my book has been mentioned by the "Worlds Leading Running Magazine."

First Review: MURDER ON THE OUTER BANKS

David Freeze is the president of the Salisbury Rowan Runners of Salisbury, NC. He is a columnist for Salisbury Post where he authors the blog, Gotta' Run.

David's Review:
Murder on the Outer Banks
From a veteran runner’s perspective, I read the first chapter of Joe Ellis’ mystery novel, and I was hooked. My thoughts have often wondered back to the glory days of my best and fastest races. When looking at the race times of winners today, it is easy to imagine myself racing with them again. What if I could win just one more race? Medical Researcher Dr. Hopkins must have felt the same way as he worked to reclaim his youthful ability. Imagine a 65 year old runner who easily beats the best locals! Would we want to do it again?
Murder on the Outer Banks raises the question—If you had the ability to reclaim your youth, would you? It is not the simple question that it seems. The book explores what might really happen should a fountain of youth be available, spinning a tale that is filled with unexpected twists and turns throughout.
Riches, looks and healing are among the rewards considered as the characters consider what is right and what is wrong. There is a feel good love story that intensifies throughout, and lots of descriptive characters who juggle their own perception of ‘What if?’ Criminals, the FBI, and even the White House want the secret formula, and will stop at nothing to get it. The pace accelerates from the beautiful North Carolina Outer Banks to Washington, DC, secluded West Virginia, and back to a coastal hurricane.
While most of the book is fiction, there is enough truth to make me wonder if someday our youth might be as close as a scientist’s fantastic discovery. Would we really want it back?

Murder on the Outer Banks

The new novel has been completed. Final editing is taking place this week then off to the printers--Victor Graphics out of Baltimore, Maryland. John F. Blair Publishing out of North Carolina again will be the distributor for the novel which will be available May 1. I am very excited! The story is a about an old medical researcher who concocts a serum that reverses aging in human cells. When the old doctor wins a local 5k race in Manteo, NC, a group known as the Medical Mafia suspects he has succeeded in his research. From there the bodies begin to pile up on the Outer Banks. Gee Gee Rosell, owner of Buxton Village Books, believes it's definitely the best of the Outer Banks Murder Series. I'll be posting more as the publication date approaches. Please help spread the news.
